Olislaegers, Gustaaf

° Heverlee, 27/03/1897 — † Heverlee, 13/05/1930

Jan Dewilde (translation: Jo Sneppe)

After having received his musical initiation from the municipal school of music in Leuven, Olislaegers continued his studies at the Brussels Conservatory, where he obtained first prizes for harmony, fugue, counterpoint and organ.

He mainly composed vocal music (songs and choral works), but wrote some instrumental works for piano, organ, violin and cello as well.

Shortly before he died, already completely afflicted with blindness, he dictated his last song to his sister.

A song like Herfst (Autumn, on a text by Jozef Simons), written in the impressionist manner, is suggestive of the potential of this prematurely deceased composer.
